Selection and Appointment of Editorial Board Members

Editorial Board members are selected to represent diverse university disciplines aligned with the journal’s aim and scope. Members should be active scholars with strong research engagement, broad professional networks, and a proven publication record in reputable journals or books.

Appointment of the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by Oda Bultum University management on a competitive, merit-based basis for a three-year term, renewable once. Reappointment is based on a formal performance evaluation, including a report on achievements from the previous term and a strategic plan for the next term. The evaluation also allows consideration of new candidates.

Criteria for Selecting Editorial Board Members
Editorial Board members are selected based on:

  • Relevant expertise and publication record

  • Experience as editors or peer reviewers in reputable journals

  • PhD qualification or Assistant Professorship without a PhD

  • Commitment, professionalism, and editorial service experience

  • Active participation in national and international academic forums

  • Ability to manage fair, timely, and high-quality peer review

  • Capacity to meet publication schedules and provide constructive feedback

  • Willingness to learn and use journal management systems

  • Ability to ensure positive author and reviewer experiences

  • Capacity to handle ethical issues and policy violations

  • Innovation in content development, including special issues

Editorial Board

Duties and responsibilities of the Editorial Board: 

The Editorial Board comprises respected scholars, including the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Managing Editor, Language Editor, and Production Officer. It oversees the peer review process, makes final publication decisions, and proposes special issues, with guidance from the Advisory Board. The number of Associate Editors depends on institutional representation.

The Board meets three times before each publication series. Meetings are mandatory, chaired by the Editor-in-Chief, and decisions require a quorum of 50% +1 members. The Managing Editor may serve as the Board secretary.

The Editor-in-Chief:

Editor-in-Chief – Key Responsibilities

  • Represents the Editorial Board on all journal matters.

  • Has full authority over editorial content, accuracy, and final publications.

  • Oversees peer review, plagiarism checking, and manuscript quality.

  • Chairs Editorial Board meetings and guides editorial direction and policies.

  • Ensures timely publication and compliance with journal policies.

  • Liaises with the publisher and coordinates production activities.

  • Leads strategic planning, budgeting, and resource mobilization.

  • Recommends qualified editorial appointments and solicits manuscripts.

Term: Three years, renewable once based on performance.

The Associate Editors:

Associate Editors – Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on journal policies in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Manage manuscript screening, peer review coordination, and reviewer selection.

  • Ensure fairness, anonymity, and academic merit in manuscript assessment.

  • Edit, proofread, and approve technical and language quality of manuscripts.

  • Ensure compliance with author guidelines, formatting, citations, and references.

  • Identify key topics, solicit manuscripts, and increase journal contributions.

  • Support regular and timely publication of the journal.

  • Liaise with the publisher and handle editorial duties in the absence of the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Maintain confidentiality and address ethical or guideline breaches.

  • Ensure overall quality, layout, and standards of the journal.

Term: Two years, renewable once upon appointment.

Managing Editor

The Managing Editor reports to the Editor-in-Chief and is an academically qualified, computer-literate staff member.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages all journal communications through the journal website.

  • Oversees daily journal operations and reports to the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Coordinates manuscript handling, coding, review distribution, and revisions.

  • Communicates reviewer comments and collects revised manuscripts.

  • Coordinates typesetting, quality checks, and submission to the publisher.

  • Organizes journal workflow, scheduling, and dissemination.

  • Prepares agendas, records minutes, and maintains confidentiality.

  • Supports editorial meetings and supervises the secretarial office.

  • Manages journal promotion and media communication.

  • Ensures manuscripts comply with journal style and formatting guidelines.

Term: Two years, renewable based on performance.

Language Editor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edits and improves manuscript language to meet the standards of reputable journals.

  • Reviews diction, grammar, syntax, coherence, and overall readability.

  • Ensures clarity, logical flow, and proper organization of ideas.

  • Removes offensive or inappropriate language.

  • Ensures the manuscript’s tone, style, and language are appropriate for the journal’s target readership.
